Since 1964, these homeowners have returned to Vail, eventually acquiring two adjoining rowhouses in 2001. What began as a plan to combine the homes evolved into a more thoughtful solution.
The properties were reimagined as two separate vacation residences, each designed to serve one of their sons and his family. Working with Shepherd Resources and interior designer Tracie Schumacher, the homeowners focused on multi generational living, with multiple primary suites, integrated seating, generous ski storage, and upper level decks that connect the homes and allow easy movement between spaces.
Originally built in the 1960s, the rowhouses underwent extensive renovation. Collaborating closely with Schumacher, the homeowner shaped two distinct interiors that reflect each family’s lifestyle, grounded in reclaimed wood and sustainable materials for a timeless foundation. Despite their narrow twenty foot width, the homes are filled with light. Tall windows frame views of the surrounding mountains and Gore Creek, while open layouts create a sense of ease and openness throughout.
Designed to support a family of more than fifty members, these Vail residences balance comfort, function, and enduring quality.
